What Special Education programs does the SELPA operate?

None. The SELPA serves all the schools on the Western Slope of El Dorado County in an advisory capacity and provides the governance structure for the districts in the region. However, the SELPA does not operate any programs directly.


 

How can I find out what Special Education Programs are available in SELPA?

The full continuum of program options are available in El Dorado County. Contact your district of residence for information on specific program options.


 

How do I refer my child for Special Education services?

Contact your local district of residence to make a referral. They will discuss your concerns and develop an appropriate assessment plan in order to determine your child's educational needs.


 

May a parent contact the SELPA office directly if they have questions regarding special education services or placement?

The SELPA staff are always available as a resource to parents.


 

Does the SELPA provide advocacy services for parents?

SELPA staff are often called upon to facilitate the IEP process on behalf of both parents and districts.


 

How can I get information regarding my Due Process rights?

The SELPA staff are knowledgeable and will provide parents with information regarding Due Process.


 

How can I contact other parents of special needs children?

The Community Advisory Committee(CAC) meets throughout the school year, and is comprised mainly of parents of children with special needs . The SELPA also maintains a resource list for families. Several parents with expertise in many areas of disability have offered to serve as parent contacts. This is an excellent resource for families.
