Influenza A H1N1 (Swine Flu) Update and Resources

Welcome to the El Dorado County Office of Education Influenza A H1N1 (Swine flu) website.

We have created this website to provide schools and parents with the most current information about the Influenza A H1N1- swine flu- outbreak. Swine flu is a respiratory illness caused by infection with swine influenza A virus that can occasionally affect humans. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has determined that the swine flu virus is contagious and is spreading from human to human. 

On this website you will find links to informational sites about swine flu as well as toolkits and other resources that schools and parents may use to increase awareness about swine flu prevention and treatment.

 

There are three stages or levels identified in dealing with Influenza A H1N1.

Suspected- which is for cases that are exhibiting the symptions consistent with the Influenza A-H1N1, ie: fever and coughing, and have either been to Mexico or been exposed to someone who has travelled to Mexico in the recent past.

Probable- the case has been tested at the local level and the results are suggestive of the Influenza A-H1N1 virus.

Confirmed- the case has been confirmed with the state testing.
